A Big Day! March 14, 2008
Hi everyone, my convention is over so I have a bit more time now! It went well, but looong days!
Jack had a big day yesterday. First, he said “mama” – more than once! You might be thinking, “Mama, he hasn’t said that yet?” and the answer is no, not really. He’s said it once or twice, but it’s been while since I last heard it. He has a really big vocabulary for a baby his age; he says dada (a lot), Ella (his favorite word!), uh-oh, up, wow, good girl, twinkle, bye-bye, hi, boo and he makes all sorts of animal sounds – woof, hisss, quack (he actually makes a quacking sound that Gerry does. Even I can’t do it!), moo and baaa! But, “mama” eluded us! We’ll see if it sticks, but he said it multiple times throughout the evening! I was sooooo happy!
Second, and an even bigger milestone, he sat himself up from a laying position! I put him to bed and he was crying (the time change isn’t going well!) so I left the room (after 20 minutes of rubbing his back and rocking him!). I went downstairs and he started to really cry so I went in to check and he was sitting up, holding his blankie and Ugly Doll (they are really cute, google them! He has Icy the bat and Babo the sailor). Anyway, I digress…so, I had a huge shock! He was just stitting there like “hello!” I wasn’t sure if he pulled himself into that position from the bars or not. Well, when Gerry went in this morning he was sitting again! Then he laid back down and pushed himself into the sitting position again. So clever!
He’s also moving into the crawling position for a few seconds, so hopefully it won’t be far behind.
What a day!
Time for an Update March 5, 2008
Sorry it’s been so long since I posted. I had a FABULOUS birthday! We took Jack to the park after we got up, and it was a beautiful day.
Then we went to lunch. After we came home, Sabine and I went and got manicures and pedicures. I have not had a manicure since before I got pregnant! I never bothered after I had Jack because of washing his bottles, and of course it’s been a week and the manicure is ruined already! That’s ok, it looked great!
Then Sabine came back over after we put Jack to bed and Gerry and I went out to dinner to celebrate our birthdays. We had such a nice time, but we were home by 9:30! He and Jack sent me two dozen gorgeous yellow roses and got me a new pair of sun glasses (that I asked for). I am wearing them in the photo above at the park.
My mom came for a visit last week. We went to the zoo for the first time and it was fabulous. We joined because we liked it so much (the zoo here isn’t free). Jack had a great time!
On Sunday Gerry took me to see Stars on Ice while my mom babysat. I hadn’t been in probably 15 years, and it was so much fun! Sascha Cohen was the headliner, and all of the other stars were ones I really like. Todd Eldridge, my all-time favorite, was in the show too! Gerry actually had more fun than he thought he would. I was so excited when he surprised me with the tickets.
Next week is the Seatrade Cruise Shipping Convention. It’s the biggest cruise convention in the world, and we do the PR for it. We also do the daily newspaper, so it means long hours and more stress than usual at work. So, this will probably be my last post for the next week or so. Sorry I’ve left so much time between posts. After Seatrade I will try to be better.
Meet Ella Bella March 5, 2008
It occurred to me the other day that I have never posted a photo of Ella, our beloved pooch. If you don’t know the story, we rescued her from a no-kill shelter. It was love at first sight from my end. Seriously, I saw her and knew she was ours! Gerry wasn’t so convinced, but I think he loves her now more than I do! haha! We’re not sure what she is, but she has a little terrier, lab and possibly pit bull (don’t worry – we did our research and pit bull mixes are among the best family dogs and very friendly)!
She is a sweetie and loves to snuggle, but she has a slight licking problem
They say dogs who were weaned too early tend to lick. Well, she must have been weaned from the get-go because she licks and licks and licks! She especially loves to lick Jack. We let her lick his feet and she sneaks in licks on his hands! Jack LOVES Ella. Sure, he doesn’t say “mama,” but he can say “Ella” over and over, and he also says “good girl” to her! It’s really cute. If we’re sitting playing in the living room he yells Ella! Ella! until she comes running.
And yes, those are my pajamas!
